Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 15, 2026
This policy explains how Surrealism ("we", "us") — the macOS screensaver by the makers of Surrealism Today — handles personal information on surrealism.app and in the app. Surrealism is operated by Jay Gidwitz (surrealism.app), PO Box 881135, Suite E107 #747, San Diego, CA 92168, USA. Questions: [email protected].
Information we collect
- Purchase & license. The name and email you provide at checkout, and the license key we issue. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never receive or store your full card details.
- Account. An account is created from your purchase email so you can sign in (passwordlessly, by a one-time emailed link) to see your license and manage your devices. We store your email, your name, and the identifiers of the devices you've activated. We store your license key only as a one-way hash — never the key itself.
- Support messages. The name, email, and message you send via our contact form (processed by Formspree) or by email.
- Technical data. Standard information your browser sends (such as IP address and device/browser type). We use Google Analytics to understand site usage and purchases in aggregate. We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in to your account; we do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
- App usage data. The Mac app sends anonymous usage statistics (such as "screensaver enabled" or "theater opened") to Google Analytics, identified only by a random identifier — never your name, email, license key, or files. You can turn this off anytime with the "Share anonymous usage data" toggle in the app's Playback panel.
How we use it
- Deliver your purchase and license, and provide the app and downloads.
- Provide support and respond to your messages.
- Keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
- Meet legal, tax, and accounting obligations.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers that help us run Surrealism, under their own privacy terms: Stripe (payments), Formspree (contact form), Cloudflare (email delivery, hosting, and downloads/R2), and Google (aggregate analytics). We do not sell your personal information.
Data retention
We keep purchase, license, and account records for as long as needed to provide the product and to meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize them. Sign-in links expire within minutes; sign-in sessions expire after a period of inactivity, and you can sign out to end them immediately.
You can request a copy of your account data, or ask us to delete your account, by emailing [email protected]. Deleting your account removes your profile and sign-in ability; we may retain minimal purchase records where the law requires.
Your rights (GDPR / UK)
If you're in the EEA or UK, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of your personal data, and object to certain processing. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it, and you may lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. To exercise any right, email [email protected].
Your rights (California — CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA/CPRA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. To make a request, email [email protected].
Children
Surrealism is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA), and we do not knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
We may update this policy; the date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be noted here.
